The large chateau compound was established in 1705 on the site of an old stronghold. The chateau was rebuilt in late-Baroque style in 1775. It underwent another renovation in 1872–74 under the ownership of the counts of Pálffy, in an English Gothic style, creating the building you can see today.
The chateau was nationalized in 1948 and used by a local agricultural school. At present, the building serves as a museum with exhibitions dedicated to the collections of its founder, František Raušar, the houses of Kolowrat and Pálffy, the works of Milan Knížák and other artists.
Adjacent to the building is the chateau park, created by Eduard Pálffy in 1872–73 in the English style, with numerous rare trees and bushes.
